No. Higher magnification can make an image harder to hold steady and can reduce field of view. The best magnification depends on viewing distance, subject movement, lighting and portability.
8×42 generally offers a wider, easy‑to‑handle viewing experience; 10×42 provides more magnification while remaining relatively portable; 12×50 provides greater magnification and a larger aperture for more detailed long‑range viewing.
The objective lens is the larger front lens. The number after the “x” indicates its approximate diameter in millimeters. Larger objectives can collect more light but generally increase size and weight.
